Constitution Day - 17 September

Two-hundred and thirty-eight years ago today a remarkable document was signed in Philadelphia.

"We the People" has been a both a description of our shared values and a call for us to continually strive for unity.

The events of this past week reminds us of the enormous challenge.

Freedom has two parts, Liberty and Responsibility.  In order to maintain, preserve and perpetuate our freedom, we have a responsibility to obey the laws or rules in our society, be aware of our neighbors and friends, and strive to add our value and work for good purposes.   Fulfilling these responsibilities are part of our civic disposition and help us stay true to the core principles of our country and model our Vision for Learning.

What a wonderful opportunity each of us has to pause, look back on our nation’s history and reconnect with the foundational documents of this country and the principles that guide and bless all of us as we move forward.

Our constitutional form of government is considered one of America's greatest achievements, a powerful expression of the Founders' belief in liberty, equality, and self-governance. The constitution provides the authority and framework for our federal government, while reserving important rights to the States.  The principles found in our Constitution are aligned with and part of Alpine’s Vision for Learning, specifically in our Civic disposition or mindset.

Alpine School District is committed to fostering civic knowledge and awareness in our students by providing meaningful opportunities for them to engage with their history.

Our educators work tirelessly every day to strengthen students, families, community and this country through service in our classrooms, activities, athletics and community.  I am honored to serve you, and alongside them, in this important work at this critical time.
